【Learn Chinese】How to Ask "How Are You?" and Answer I

A very important question you probably ask someone everyday: How are you?
You can use it to start a conversation with a stranger or ask a friend about his or her feelings.
But how do you ask this question in Chinese? And how do you answer it in Chinese when someone else is asking you? Let’s find out.

The question we are looking for in Chinese is:
你好吗?(nǐ hǎo ma) – How are you?

If you haven’t seen a friend for a while you can ask:
好久不见,你好吗? (hǎojiǔ bù jiàn, nǐ hǎo ma) – It's been a long time, how are you?
你最近过得好吗? (nǐ zuìjìn guòde hǎo ma) – How have you been recently?
你最近怎么样?(nǐ zuìjìn zěn me yang) – How are you doing?

And here are some possible answers:
我很好。(wǒ hěn hǎo) – I'm fine.
我还好。(wǒ hái hǎo) – I'm okay.
你呢?(nǐ ne) – And you?
我很困。(wǒ hěn kùn) – I'm sleepy.
我不错。(wǒ bú cuò) – I'm not bad.
我感觉不好。(wǒ gǎnjué bù hǎo) – I'm feeling not good.
谢谢你的慰问。(xièxie nǐ de wèiwèn) – Thank you for asking.
我也很好。(wǒ yě hěn hǎo) – I'm fine too.
