【Learn Chinese】Different Ways to Say Thank You in Chinese

Friendship plays a tremendous role in Chinese culture, and Chinese people love helping each other when their friends are in need of something. Like in most countries, Chinese people tend to say “thank you” after receiving help from others.
In this article, we’d like to teach you six words and phrases that can be used to say “thank you” in Chinese.

谢谢 (xièxie) - Thanks
This is the most common way to say “thanks/thank you” in Chinese. You can use it whenever someone does you a favor. Sometimes you might also hear Chinese people say 谢谢你 (Xièxie nǐ), which is the standard way to say “thank you” in Chinese”. Meanwhile, you can also say 谢谢你们 (Xièxie nǐmen) if you would like to say “thank you” to a group of people.

多谢 (duō xiè) - Thanks a lot
This is another popular word that can be used to say “thank you” in Chinese. In this word, 多 (duō) means “many/much”, therefore, the literal meaning of this word is “many thanks”, which can be translated as “thanks a lot”.

非常感谢 (fēicháng gǎnxiè) - Thank you very much
非常 (fēicháng) means “very/extremely”, and 感谢 (gǎnxiè) means “to appreciate”. Hence, this phrase can be treated as “really appreciate it”. Chinese people often use this phrase if they would like to express their sincere appreciation to someone. What you need to bear in mind is that 非常感谢 (fēicháng gǎnxiè) is a set phrase, which means the word 感谢 (gǎnxiè) cannot be replaced by 谢谢 (xièxie).

太谢谢你了! (tài xièxie nǐ le) - Thank you so much!
The structure 太 ……了 (tài … le) is usually used to emphasize a certain fact. For example, 太热了 (tài rè le) means “it’s so hot”. Therefore, this phrase implies a higher degree of emotion in comparison with the words and phrases explained above, which means it can be considered equivalent to “thank you so much” in English.
